Abstract (English)  :

Over the years, actions to improve the safety of childbirth and delivery have shown significant progress. Maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality have declined dramatically. However, these promising results are tarnished by numerous criticisms regarding shortcomings in the discrepancy of practices and obvious deficiencies in the human support during delivery.

In this report, we confront the actual running of maternity service bound by medical performance to the motives for dissatisfaction as articulated by the women.

We propose the following areas for improvement: better training of caregivers, better education of women, harmonization of practices, as well as changes in the running of maternity services, particularly through a larger involvement of the users.

These proposals could serve as a foundation for action to be undertaken gradually in each maternity hospital in order to improve the quality of care.
