Résumé (français)  :

Abstract (English)  :

We were able to observe a stabilization of the frequency of cesarean sections of 20% to 23% in the period considered. The most common indications were repeat cesarean section because of a previous cesarean delivery (45%), dystocia (15%), fetal distress (10%), and breech presentation (7%). When the population on which the first cesarean delivery was carried out was analyzed separately, we found that the indication for dystocia (35%) doubles that corresponding to fetal distress (17%) and trebles that for breech presentation (11%). It is remarkable that in populations belonging to two countries far apart geographically, ethnically, and socioeconomically, and surely with very different assistance modes and possibilities, the results obtained show such remarkable similarity.
