More than one in two women with low-risk pregnancies (52%) had at least one obstetric intervention (induction of labor, caesarean section, instrumental extraction, episiotomy) in 2010. The likelihood of having an intervention is not higher in the larger maternities. It is, however, in private maternities.

We have made an inventory of the care of women at the time of delivery in France, in a context where evidence-based medicine is becoming more and more important in the practice of professionals, where the closure many maternity clinics lead to a concentration of births in increasingly large public and specialized institutions, where the desire to meet the needs of women and some of their demands is met.
