Symptoms of depression, anxiety and peritraumatic distress are linked to aspects of the prenatal period, but also to the experience of childbirth. More specific prevention, screening and care measures, depending on the woman’s symptomatology, can be implemented during pregnancy or at the maternity. Further research seems essential to better understand the interactions between the prenatal period, childbirth and postpartum in explaining women’s mental health in the immediate postpartum period.

For the past 25 years, Klaus et al. have been observing and studying what happens when a woman provides “continuous emotional support“ during labour and delivery. To date, more than 5,000 women have been observed in 16 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) that have shown a reduction in the length of labour, a reduction in the need for anaesthesia or analgesia, a reduction in the incidence of caesarean section and more natural births.

Résultats : Le premier intérêt obstétrical du changement de positions pendant le travail est l’amélioration du confort des parturientes. Puis c’est la diminution du temps de travail, avec une meilleure dynamique utérine et une meilleure dilatation cervicale.
