L’âge maternel devrait être utilisé pour décider quelles femmes ont un risque particulier de donner naissance à un enfant ayant une anomalie chromosomique. Des tests de dépistage, tels que le dépistage du sérum maternel, pourraient être utilisés pour modifier les risques liés à l’âge de la mère. L’amniocentèse devrait être offerte aux femmes ayant un risque accru. Le prélèvement des villosités choriales peut être offert comme une solution de rechange à l’amniocentèse.
