World Week 2010

After dis­cussing the mat­ter with moti­vat­ed part­ners we final­ized the theme and date for the World Respect­ing Child­birth Week  in 2010.

The date will be 16 to 23 May 2010. Please feel free to orga­nize events (rea­son­ably) off-peri­od. As you know, impor­tant projects may hap­pi­ly be real­ized pre- and post-term! The most impor­tant thing is to link many events with the cam­paign and relay them on social networks.

This year’s theme will be “BIRTH TRAUMA, BIRTH PLEASURE”.

There are many dif­fer­ent ways of inter­pret­ing this mot­to and trans­lat­ing it to Roman lan­guages. We feel that it makes it easy to adapt the cam­paign to pri­or­i­ties per­ceived by var­i­ous actors in var­i­ous coun­tries. “Birth” may evoke wom­en’s labour or the birth of a child. Thus it will be pos­si­ble to focus the cam­paign on birthing women, par­ents, fam­i­lies or babies. Nee­dles to say, sev­er­al mean­ings may be asso­ci­at­ed with the words “trau­ma” and “plea­sure”.

Please cir­cu­late this announce­ment as wide­ly as pos­si­ble and trans­late it to more lan­guages. We look for­ward to receiv­ing pre­sen­ta­tions of the theme in var­i­ous lan­guages as it will be declined in dif­fer­ent parts of the world.
